Sweat Rate Calculator
The Sweat Rate Calculator estimates fluid loss per hour. Simply enter your body weights and fluid intake to calculate your sweat rate and total fluid loss. This tool helps athletes and active individuals understand how much water they lose during exercise to plan for better hydration. This calculator also calculates total fluid loss in liters.

What Is Sweat Rate
Sweat rate is the amount of fluid your body loses through sweat over one hour of activity. When you exercise, your body gets hot and sweats to cool down. This number tells you how much water you need to drink to replace what you lost. Knowing your sweat rate helps you stay hydrated and perform better during sports or physical work.
How Sweat Rate Is Calculated
Formula
Sweat Rate = (Pre-weight − Post-weight + Fluid intake − Urine output) / Exercise duration
Where:
- Pre-weight = Body weight before exercise (kg)
- Post-weight = Body weight after exercise (kg)
- Fluid intake = Total fluids consumed during exercise (L)
- Urine output = Fluid lost via urination during exercise (L)
- Exercise duration = Total activity time (hours)
To find this number, we first look at how much weight you lost. Since losing 1 kilogram is about the same as losing 1 liter of fluid, we can track weight change easily. We then add back the fluid you drank and subtract any urine you passed. This gives the total fluid lost. Finally, we divide that total by the number of hours you exercised to find the hourly rate.
Why Sweat Rate Matters
Understanding how much you sweat helps you plan your water intake during exercise. It can guide you on how much to drink before, during, and after activity to keep your body working well.
Why Hydration Is Important for Health
If you do not replace the fluid you lose, you may become dehydrated. Dehydration is often associated with feeling tired, dizzy, or getting muscle cramps. In hot weather, severe fluid loss can be dangerous. Drinking the right amount of water may help you avoid these problems and stay safe while you are active.
For Athletic Performance
Athletes often lose a lot of water when they train or compete. Even a small loss of fluid can make it harder to perform well. By knowing your sweat rate, you can create a drinking plan that matches your body's needs. This may help you maintain your energy and strength for a longer time.
For Exercising in Heat
You usually sweat more when it is hot and humid outside. Your body works harder to cool down, which means you lose fluid faster. If you exercise in the summer, you may need to drink more than usual. Checking your sweat rate in different seasons helps you adjust your habits for the weather.
