Wire Mesh Weight Calculator

The Wire Mesh Weight Calculator estimates the total weight of a wire mesh sheet. Simply enter your wire diameter, mesh opening size, and sheet dimensions to calculate your total mesh weight. This helps you understand how heavy a material is for transport or building costs. This calculator also calculates total wire length and weight per square meter.

Enter the thickness of the wire in millimeters
Enter the gap between parallel wires in millimeters
Enter the total width of the mesh sheet in meters
Enter the total length of the mesh sheet in meters
Enter the density of the material (Steel is approx 7850)

This calculator provides estimates based on standard geometric formulas. Actual weights may vary due to manufacturing tolerances, coatings, or material impurities. Please verify with a supplier for precise engineering or shipping requirements.

What Is Wire Mesh Weight

Wire Mesh Weight is the total mass of a wire screen or roll. It tells you how heavy the mesh is based on the thickness of the wires and the size of the holes. This number is important for knowing the cost of materials and planning how to move the mesh. It is commonly measured in kilograms (kg).

How Wire Mesh Weight Is Calculated

Formula

Weight = Total Wire Length × Cross-Sectional Area × Material Density

Where:

  • Total Wire Length = (Number of width wires × Length) + (Number of length wires × Width)
  • Number of wires = (Dimension ÷ Pitch) + 1
  • Pitch = Wire Diameter + Mesh Opening Size
  • Cross-Sectional Area = π × (Wire Diameter)² ÷ 4

The calculator first finds the pitch, which is the width of one wire plus one hole. Then, it counts how many wires fit across the sheet. By multiplying the count by the sheet size, it finds the total length of all wires combined. Finally, it calculates the volume of that wire and multiplies it by the material density to find the weight.

Why Wire Mesh Weight Matters

Knowing the exact weight of wire mesh is key for budgeting and safety. It helps you estimate the cost of raw materials and ensures you do not overload vehicles during transport. This calculation is useful for builders, engineers, and fence installers.

Why Accurate Weight Is Important for Structural Support

If you do not calculate the weight correctly, a structure might become too heavy. This can lead to the structure failing or breaking under the load. Using the right weight helps you choose supports that are strong enough to hold the mesh safely.

For Shipping and Logistics

Trucks and ships have limits on how much weight they can carry. Calculating the mesh weight ensures you do not exceed these limits. It also helps you plan how many sheets can fit in one load without being unsafe.

For Cost Estimation

Materials like steel are often sold by weight. Knowing the total weight helps you guess the total price of a project. This allows you to create a better budget and avoid spending more money than you planned.
