  • Volume = Cross-sectional Area × Length
  • Density = Mass per unit volume (typically 7850 kg/m³)

To find the weight, we first find the volume of the steel shape. We do this by multiplying the cross-sectional area by the length. The cross-sectional area changes based on if the steel is a round bar, square pipe, or flat plate. Once we have the volume, we multiply it by the density of steel. Density tells us how much matter is packed into a specific space. Standard mild steel has a high density, which makes it heavy.
